The outset of the educational process in the location of Poroj, Xhepcisht and Gjerme begins in the fall of 1922. At the beginning the school’s name was ‘Liria’. As a noted event of the school’s history is that of the year 1968, in which was celebrated the 500 years of the death of the national hero Gjergj Kastrioti Skenderbeu, in which case the Council of the Municipality of Tetovo decided that a primary school will have the name of Skenderbeu, so the school’s council in the meeting held on 15.05.1968 under the director Ajet Memeti, with the proposal of Servet Rahmani and with the voting of all the employees was decided that the school’s new name will be ‘Skenderbeu’.

The school’s proposal was then approved by the Council of the Municipality of Tetovo in September 1968, so the school takes the name ‘Gjergj Kastrioti-Skenderbu’, a name that still has.

Nowadays, the teaching process is held in 3 school buildings: Poroj, Xhepcisht and Gjerme. The school in Poroj and Gjerme is run in two shifts, while in Xhepcisht only in one. The school day is 15^th May. From the school year 2012/2013, the number of the employees is 82, out of which 98% are qualified.

This year there are 785 students in 46 classes, out of which 93 students in the peripheral school in Gjerme in 9 classes. The school has 83 employees, out of which 69 teachers, 6 administrators (principal, sociologist, psychologist, economist, pedagogue and secretary) and 8 site staff.
